How long have you been in your industry?16 years
Why did you choose your industry? It chose me. actually. I moved into Contingent Project Work and eventually executive placement after leaving Dale Carnegie Training during the Great Recession in 2008. Corporations were pulling back spend on corporate training, and I found a way to market to the same "C"-level audience but in talent acquisition rather than talent development.
Who are your typical clients?Directors, VP's and C-level executives mostly in mid-sized organizations that have specific talent need primarily in the Data, Cyber Security, Cloud and AI domains in IT.
What do you like best about being in this industry? It is constantly changing and evolving.
What are common problems you see? Some trends and developments can be more style and not substance, where we are seemingly running ater the "new" new thing, and it doesn't really have fundamentals of a sustaining business or a trend that is not a true transformative solution.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Always stick with fundamentals of your expertise and keep sharping those technical and soft skills for career and business development.
When is your busy season? There isn't necessarily a busy or slow season for us.
What keeps you up at night?I have a great team, and we constantly focus on improvement internally and delivery to our clients, so I sleep pretty well at night.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? We constantly look at new organizations and executives to build those new relationships and look at what other specialties in technology should we really focus on and become domain experts in.
How involved are you in the community?Being a veteran, I belong to my local American Legion Post, RWB, and as a runner I've participated in marathons to raise money for Team Fisher House and he Fisher Foundation.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Easter Seals / Goodwill Industries
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Be comfortable with learning new professions that you may be recruiting for, and use conversations with candidates to understand what they do. This will help you develop your acumen in those professions without having to have worked in them.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Running, reading, movies and spending time with my wife and adult kids.
